Registering for a Distance Course

When deciding to take a distance course, first determine whether your goal is personal growth or whether you hope to earn a university degree. It is not neccessary to enroll in a degree program if you are taking courses for personal enrichment only. If you are interested in pursuing a degree or certificate, we recommend that you meet with an academic advisor before enrolling. The Distance Education Handbook is available to students to answer many questions about obtaining syllabi and books as well as accessing course material online and more.

If you are new to the UA system and wish to register for a distance course, contact the nearest University of Alaska campus for assistance.

Returning students can register for most distance courses online (excluding CRCD audio courses) by using the UA Online website. You may also register at your local campus, or by contacting the campus offering the course.

New Students

If you have never taken a course in the University of Alaska system, call the nearest UA campus to register.

High School Students

Secondary School students can register online only after their Secondary Student Admission/Enrollment form and Secondary School Student Signature Form have been completed and submitted with the appropriate signed approvals.

Transfer Students

If you wish to transfer we recommend applying for admission to the university four to six months before the beginning of the semester in which you wish to begin study.

International Students

International degree-seeking students should begin the application process several months in advance. International students must meet the UA application requirements as well as requirements for US immigration agencies.

Yearlong Enrollment

Continuous enrollment courses are available through the Center for Distance Education (CDE) at UAF. Students may enroll at any time, and they have up to one year from the date of enrollment to complete their course. You must register for these courses through CDE
